Read your water quality report

Every public water system publishes an annual water quality report (sometimes called a Consumer Confidence Report). It lists what's in your water, including hardness, compared with state and federal standards. Find yours on your district's website:

Private wells aren't covered by these reports. If you're on a well, test your water regularly through a certified lab.
